Theme: Interconnected

Blue Heron Nature Preserve seeks proposals for works by contemporary artists to design projects built around the notion of interconnectivity. Interconnectivity is an important element of natural ecosystems and is demonstrated in the Preserve through the symbiotic relationships between different species, such as the underground web of fungal networks that connect trees throughout the forest and allow them to communicate and share water and nutrients.

Artists are welcome to explore the possibility of site-specificity. The theme provides an opportunity for artists working in all media to consider themes of interconnectivity that may involve symbiotic relationships between different species of wildlife in the Preserve, and also relationships between humans and the natural world and how these relationships may be affected by human civilization and development. The work must be an outdoor piece that is integrated within the Preserve

The Blue Heron Nature Preserve’s The Art of Nature is a six week long outdoor art exhibition featuring site-specific art installations at the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. Artists and artist teams are invited to submit proposals for with a fee of 25.00 for professional and 10.00 for students. From these proposals The Art of Nature will select artists and will award them a $800 stipend to create their work.
