Description

Be a part of our outdoor, nature and ecology-based homeschool program for ages 5-12! Each month, we investigate a different topic related to urban ecology and utilize the woods, meadows and waterways as a living lab. 

Pricing:

  • $15 per child, per session
  • $55 per child for the whole semester (4 sessions total from September ro December)

All About Owls, Friday, September 13th. 10 am- 12 pm:

Hosted by Atlanta Audubon

In this program, students will learn about Georgia's native owl species.  They will explore owl's unique adaptation's and their importance in the food web.  Genuine owl biofacts will help students to gain perspective and understand of these amazing predators.  

 

Frog Fun, Friday October 11th. 10 am - 12 pm: 

Hosted by The Amphibian Foundation

Did you know that frogs and toads are amphibians? Did you also know there are 14 species of frogs and toads living right here in Metro Atlanta?!  We will investigate the frogs and toads that make up the 14 species living right in our back yards! We will learn to identify these amphibians by sight and by their calls! We will also go "herping" - to try to locate these amazing amphibians right on the Blue Heron property. 

 

Blue Heron Beavers Friday, November 8th. 10 am - 12 pm: 

Hosted by Blue Heron Nature Preserve.  

Did you know that beavers are North America's largest rodent? Did you know they are a keystone species? We'll learn about their amazing ability to shape the environment, explore the wetland for evidence of these natural engineers and try our hand at building our own beaver dams. 

 

Fascinating Feathers, Friday, December 13th. 10 am - 12 pm.

Feathers are a feature that make birds unique from all other animals.  Students will learn about this unique bird adaptation.  Getting a close look at different types of feathers will help students gain understanding of their functionality and purpose through hands on activities.
